The City of Calgary is investing in extending the lifespan of our transportation infrastructure, including a $17.8 million investment in the Mission Bridge, a 108-year-old bridge that was last upgraded in 1987. The bridge will undergo major rehabilitation starting on May 13, 2024, with construction crews expected to be on-site shortly. The bridge will be closed to motor vehicles for six months over the winter, starting in the Fall of 2024. The construction schedule includes:
A west lane closure from May 13 through Late Summer 2024.
A lane reduction from Late Summer to Fall 2024.
A full closure from Fall 2024 to Spring 2025.
A reopening of two-way traffic in Spring 2025.
The bridge will be completed by late 2025. The city is working to minimize impacts on bridge users, residents, and local businesses. For the safety of those rafting on the Elbow River, we advise following the clearly posted detour signs to avoid any construction areas. Your safety is our priority.
