The City of Calgary is offering free compost to residents as part of the Green Cart program. The compost is made from food scraps and yard waste and can be used in yards and gardens. Residents can pick up the compost at Shepard (South) and Spyhill (North) landfills from April 15 to June 1, but appointments must be online. Appointments will be released in time slots on specific dates, so residents should check the webpage on April 9, April 30, and May 14 for available time slots. To ensure there is a fair opportunity for all citizens, each household can only pick up compost once during the 2024 Compost Giveaway. It's essential to mix the compost with soil before using it.
