Sunnyside Flood Barrier - Upcoming closure on 9th Street N.W.

Writer's picture: Ward 7Ward 7

We want to provide an update on the ongoing Sunnyside Flood Barrier Project.

Project Update – October 15 to October 21, 2024

As we navigate through vital phases of construction, please be aware of how these developments might affect daily routines:

Traffic and Parking Adjustments:

  • Road Closure Alert: 9 St N.W., stretching from 1 Ave N.W. to Memorial Dr. N.W., will be closed to replace a critical manhole. This closure will remain around the clock to ensure workers' and public safety.

  • Parking Adjustments: It's crucial to note that street parking on 9 St N.W. within the project boundaries will be temporarily unavailable. We encourage residents to explore alternative parking options during this time.

  • Community Access: We hear and value the community's need for accessible routes. Thus, the intersection at 8 St N.W. will be fully operational, ensuring continuity in community access.

Continuing Efforts:

  • Memorial Drive Modifications: The right lane of eastbound Memorial Drive N.W., between 10 St and 14 St N.W., will also be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Pathway Updates: From October 7 to 12, the pathway will be closed at Prince's Island Pedestrian Bridge and 7 St. N.W. for stormwater utility work. The Regional Pathway along Memorial Dr. N.W. will also be closed between 10 St. N.W. and 14 St. N.W.

Community Impact:

  • We're mindful of the noise, vibrations, and general increase in construction activity. Rest assured, all necessary measures are in place to mitigate these impacts as much as possible.

  • Clear signage and fencing are installed for your safety and guidance.

Construction operations are planned Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with considerations for essential Sunday work to maintain project timelines.
