I am pleased to share the latest developments on a project close to our hearts—the 16 Ave/29 St N.W. Pedestrian Overpass.
Here are the updated construction timeline and closures:
Stage 1: Delivery and unloading
Schedule: Completed on July 11
Duration: One day
Road closure:16 Ave Westbound single lane closure.
Stage 2: Preparation
Schedule*: Began mid-July. Ongoing.
Duration: Approximately 3 weeks.
Road closure: 16 Ave Westbound single lane closure.
Stage 3: Lift bridge into place
Anticipated schedule*: August 21
Duration: One night from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Road closure: Full closure of 16 Ave during night hours.
Stage 4: Main Span Installation
Anticipated schedule*: August 21 to September 1
Duration: Approximately 1 week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Road closures: Series of Eastbound and Westbound double lane closures of 16 Ave during night hours.
Construction Impacts
• An increase in on-site activity including construction crews, vehicles and equipment.
• Delayed and detoured traffic in the area.
• Pathway and sidewalk detours and closures.
• Increased noise, vibrations and dust.
During road closures emergency vehicle access to the Foothills Medical Center will be maintained. Calgary Police will be on-site during the full closure of 16 Ave N.W. to direct and maintain emergency vehicle access.
