I have an important update about the main repair of the water feeder. Today, crews will be on-site marking the location of the feeder main. You may see blue paint on the roadway, indicating the pipe's location beneath the road. Alberta One Call crews will also identify other underground utilities in the area. You may notice various colours of paint marking their locations on the road, sidewalk, grassed regions, and small flags in the ground. In some cases, crews may need to enter the front or back of private property from the outside, but they won't need to enter inside homes or businesses.
Next Steps in the Repair Process
Beginning next week, the teams will start cutting into pavement sections along 33 Avenue N.W. to expose the feeder main for repairs. During this time, temporary parking restrictions will be in place in certain areas to accommodate this critical work. Additionally, an equipment storage area will be established at 83 Street N.W. and 33 Avenue N.W. to store the materials and equipment necessary for the repairs securely. Fencing will be installed around this area to maintain site safety. Approximately 10 small trees will need to be removed to facilitate this repair. However, a plan will be developed to replant or relocate these trees, preserving our cherished green spaces.
Ensuring a Stable Water Supply
These repairs are needed now to help us avoid an unplanned break that could disrupt our water supply during winter. Although Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions will be implemented on August 26, you can be assured that clean drinking water will remain accessible to all Calgarians. Please conserve water by flushing toilets only when necessary, doing full laundry, and taking shorter showers. For non-drinking purposes such as gardening and construction, non-potable river water pick-up stations will be opened for both residential and commercial use. Details regarding locations and hours will be available on calgary.ca as soon as they are finalized. Businesses can visit calgary.ca/savewateratwork to download our information sheets with water-saving tips for staff and customers and to learn more on how to prepare.
Community Engagement and Support
In the coming days, the teams will personally reach out to residents along 33 Avenue N.W. to establish direct communication and understand any specific requirements or concerns they may have. Detailed information will be left for reference if you are away from home. Local businesses will be conversed with early next week. For ongoing updates about specific repair locations, road closures, and other impacts, Calgarians are encouraged to sign up for email notifications at calgary.ca/watermainbreak.
This collaborative effort is essential for completing these necessary repairs and ensuring that Ward 7 remains a safe, vibrant, and thriving community. Thank you for your invaluable cooperation and for being part of the collective effort to build a stronger, more vibrant community.
